Kyocera awarded the Carbon Trust Standard

Kyocera Mita UK is proud to announce that it is the first company in its market sector to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard.

This new certification, that replaces the Energy Efficiency Accreditation scheme, is awarded to businesses that have genuinely reduced their carbon footprint and committed to making further reductions year on year.

The application process involved Kyocera being independently audited by an assessor to prove that their energy consumption has been reduced over a 2 year period.

Kyocera successfully demonstrated their carbon reduction policy through consistent monitoring, reporting and accounting. Targets and activities had been put in place to ensure that all aspects of a ‘green office’ had been achieved.

The Carbon Trust Standard has been designed to provide a much needed, clear and robust definition of good practice and provides independent certification to organisations that have delivered real and measurable reductions in their carbon footprint.

Environmental issues are extremely important to Kyocera – not only to Kyocera Mita in the UK but to Kyocera Corporation Worldwide. The Standard sits very well with the organisation’s worldwide objective of reducing carbon emissions.

Employee engagement is critical to the success of achieving the Standard. We have an Environment Promotion Team who are responsible for ensuring efficient usage of power and for coming up with ideas to remind others to do the same. Some of the ideas, whilst simplistic, proved to be very effective. For example, sticking small stickers on PC monitors and air conditioning controllers which reminded people to “switch off after use” or “think before you use it”; labelling multi-switch light panels to indicate which switch lit which area of an open plan office space. It was very encouraging to see employees opening windows instead of using air conditioning and to see early birds only switching on the lights in their immediate area on arrival in the office.

The results so far are very encouraging and we are currently well ahead of our energy reduction targets.”
