KYOCERA BOOSTS TONER RECYCLING PROGRAMME
19 May 2016
London, UK – May 19th 2016: KYOCERA Document Solutions UK has introduced an enhanced toner recycling programme, offering a fully branded service that provides free supply and collection of boxes in a choice of two sizes, to complement its existing solution for single toner returns. The UK scheme is part of a unified toner recycling programme across Europe in partnership with LPR who will provide collection and recycling for all Kyocera toner cassettes. Kyocera’s long-life components are designed to minimise waste and provide a low-cost printing solution for its customers through the use of simplified consumables containing only toner powder, which can easily be returned to plastic granules that can be used in a variety of manufacturing processes.
Kyocera has maintained its strong heritage by promoting environmental responsibility throughout the product life cycle, from raw materials to logistics and packaging. The company is a leader in reducing waste and landfill, winning the 'Good Packaging Award' from The Japanese Institute of Packaging Materials, who recognised the environmental sustainability of Kyocera’s polystyrene-free packaging. Materials used in all KYOCERA products are carefully considered; in particular the use of long life drum, developer and fuser units mean these can be permanently sited in the machine instead of being part of a consumable cartridge.
Takahiro Sato, President of KYOCERA Document Solutions Europe B.V. expressed his enthusiasm about the new scheme. "Focused effort on collecting and recycling toner cassettes forms part of Kyocera's environmental vision, enabling customers to benefit from technology without ignoring environmental impact. Recycling already exists across most of Europe, but our new consolidated approach means that more recycling can be done. We hope to increase the toner recycling rate by 64% in the first year alone."
How it works
Kyocera has launched a free-of-charge, direct collection scheme for all high volume customers, accessed via an easy-to-use unified online platform. This new service and the existing single unit returns service are both accessed from KYOCERA Document Solutions UK’s website. Single unit recycling is conducted through UK logistics and recycling partners, however bulk collection services for larger customers is provided as part of the pan-European partnership with LPR. The new partnership has a progressive feel about it and Ronald Frankfoorder, General Manager General Affairs at KYOCERA Document Solutions Europe, confirmed positive intentions; "LPR allow us to provide a 'one-stop shop' offering across Europe. Free on-demand service and routine use of local logistics ensure the product is recycled as efficiently as possible.”
UK Head of CSR Tracey Rawling Church added: “Because the new UK solution is part of a wider programme it offers a seamless recycling solution for large multinational customers. With consumables coming into scope for B2B WEEE legislation in January 2017, the new programme means we will be well prepared to handle anticipated increased returns rates. KDUK has offered free toner returns for more than a decade, and will continue to seek innovative ways to improve resource efficiency and close material loops."
